The 2023 Summer Music Vancouver is a CELEBRATION, bringing in some of the world’s top chamber musicians playing an array of seldom heard treasures alongside fresh performances of renowned masterworks. With 9 musicians this summer — from crowd favourites to exciting debuts of new friends — our audiences will be delighted from the first note from a violin and piano sonata by Elgar to the brilliant romp of a finale with all SMV string musicians piling into the most famous Octet ever composed. What’s a better way of bringing in the summer than with the youthful joy and genius of Mendelssohn?

Designed for concertgoers to immerse themselves in a full day’s musical journey and enrichment, these events can also be attended as single events. The morning program will pair the aforementioned Elgar Violin Sonata with the irrepressible joy of Mendelssohn’s String Quintet in A Major. As you walk out with a bounce to your step energized by Mendelssohn’s famous Scherzo movements, you will enter the adjacent room to the hall, where founder June Goldsmith and Artistic Director Adrian Fung share with you all the gossip behind the compositions and the veritable party which ends the afternoon program. The afternoon program has the light yet probing Boccherini String Quintet in D minor, followed by American composer and violinist Curtis Stewart’s arrangement of Deep River, and culminating in the Mendelssohn Octet.
